Last day of Me-Made June

Day 30:

Dress: me-made ( Burda mod. 104 from an old issue)
Jacket: H&M
Sandals: Deichmann
Bag: Forever 18
This is it. Me-Made June is officially over. For the last day I chose to wear something that I like a lot and that fits perfectly into summer season. It's a dress that I made from a vintage fabric which I got at my local HepShop. The fabric seems to be a polyester knit from the 70s or 80s, quite like swimwear fabric. Maybe I'll have enough scraps to produce a bikinitop.
So what did I learn during Me-Made June. I definitely have enough blouses and shirts but I'm missing some pants and skirts to combine them with to make a head-to-toe me-made look. I already started to look for some simple skirt patterns in my Burda collection and have a trouser pattern in mind that I would like to try again. Maybe I'll find the Beignet pattern on my journey through California which will start in two weeks. I'm super excited. Now I only have to get through the last two exams and then summer can come.
Today I visited another thrift store in Düsseldorf and I found an amazing pair of trousers there.

They are from Etro and really show the Etro aesthetic. The only problem is- they don't fit me. Anyway they were a steal for 1,50€ so I got them as an investment piece. Maybe they'll fit my daughter if I have kids later.

Oxfam finds of the week

Today I worked at Oxfam again and as ever I couldn't leave without buying some things myself. This is what I got.
The blouse is from Heine. Just yesterday I stumbled on their website and found some nice things, which I didn't expect from heine since in my mind it was a mail-order shop for elderly ladies. But it seems to be much more on-trend than I thought. The blouse was 3 €.
What a fun piece this is, sort of a wrap dress /bathrobe/ dressing gown. It was a steal for 4.50€.
Then I got this striped shirt. It is from the big sizes section and is really roomy which I think is a plus in summer. It was 4.50€ as well. The shorts I'm wearing in the pictures are from New Yorker in Copenhagen.

Me-made Mittwoch

Day 29:
Shirt: Oxfam
Skirt: me-made ( old Burda)
Sandals: Deichmann
Bag: Forever 18
Wow, soon Me-Made March is over. I'm still undecided about my outfit for tomorrow. It should be either something of my me-made things that is very well made or that I wear quite often. We'll see what the morning brings tomorrow.
The skirt I'm wearing today is something I made years ago, but somehow it still fits even though I gained some sizes in trousers. Maybe it's like the pants of The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and fits every girl. Btw a really good book series that I like a lot. The film was okay, but the books are much better and made me cry some times.
Today is also wednesday which means Me-Made-Mittwoch is on. Here you find the other lovely girls and their creations. And of course I want to thank Catherine for putting up this Blenza-Link-share-thingy.

I just found out about this, but it seems to be a cooperation for a year. Burda and Perwoll offer one of the patterns from each magazine in an online version. There are some good patterns to be found like a tunic from July 2010. Directions are unfortunalety in German only, but I think that doesn't stop any of you right ? Maybe you find a garment that you like and then you don't have to trace it from the magazine.

Dressed up for revision

Day 28:
Top: thrifted (Gap)
Skirt: me-made ( just two rectangles out of stretchy fabric sewn together at the sides)
Shoes: thrifted
Bangle: thrifted
Getting dressed for revising again.Today I put a little more effort in the outfit and even wore heels to go out for a quick walk to relax. They were a lucky find at the fleamarket in Bonn a while ago. Two weekends ago I went there again, but the weather wasn't so nice and I only found one top which is too small. I didn't try it at the market so I will donate it to Oxfam.

Day 27:
Waistcoat: me-made ( actually a blazer pattern from a Burda)
Top: H&M
Trousers: thrifted
Sandals: Deichmann
Did I already mention how tired I am of revising ? I'm so looking forward to when the semester is over and I'll have time to sew again. Somehow I have so many ideas on what to sew right now and I have to restrict myself of thinking about how I'm going to do this and that. On Tuesday the 5th my last exam will take place so please wish me luck until then. I'm trying really hard to keep up with posting me-made garments but when you have nowhere to go to for the day, just from your bed to your desk, it can be really annoying to choose something to wear.

Feeling so blue

Day 25:
Jeansjacket: H&M
Top: H&M
Scarf: 1€Shop
Skirt: me-made
I felt like wearing a real outfit again for going to the grocery store and revising afterwards.

Me-made June day 24

Day 24:
Top: me-made ( Burda 7/2000 mod.128)
Leggings: Tchibo
Sandals: Reno
What do you wear during examination period ? I keep it comfortable and simple, because I don't have the energy to dress up. But I'm already looking forward to the time when I finished exams and have a reason to wear an outfit to leave the house.

Net a Porter copycat

One of my favourite online stores is Net a Porter. Well, not that I ever even came close to buying something from there, but it is a really nice store to get inspiration for sewing projects. They have great detail shots of the garments and even better they have a detailed list of measurements for the item. Take for example this nice flared jeans from J Brand which is still on my to-sew list. This model has exactly the shape of a trouser that I like ( high rise, medium flare) and in the measurements I can read that the leg opening measures about 64 cm in the largest size. Now I take a look at my Burda pattern (07/2003 117) and see that the leg opening there is about 60 cm wide. So I know that this pattern is a really good base to copy the J Brand version and save 200 € .
Maybe I will make this a weekly column of the blog ,the "net-a-porter copycat" What do you think ? Soon my exams will be over and then I will be able to turn all these ideas in my head into reality.

Me-made June day 23

Day 23:
Dress: me-made ( Burda)
Leggings: Tchibo
Another comfortable outfit for revising. The dress has some nice details like pleats and gathers but with this fabric they are hardly visible. Nevertheless they make the dress fit quite well. The fabric was bought at www.stoffe-zanderino.de and is still available. It is quite thin, so if you make a dress you will need something to wear underneath like a slip dress. But it is easy to work with and drapes nicely.

What I Wore book release

Someone who really inspired me to start blogging was Jessica from WhatIwore. Nowadays she even sews some of her outfits again and I'm even more in awe how inspirational this woman is. She never fails to surprise you with an unexpected mix of colours or some 50s inspired dresses.
To share her sense in style and let everyone dress as impeccable as she does, she wrote a book that concentrates on styling and putting together your wardrobe. If I don't win it, it will definitely be on my wishlist for christmas or I'll see if I find it in the bookshops in California.

Cool light

Day 22:
Top:me-made (Burda 01/2008 mod.122)
Trousers: thrifted
Sandals: TK Maxx
I only found time to take the picture in the late afternoon and the sun provided me with some cool light effect. The blouse is the first time use of this pattern. I made it a couple of years ago from some linen fabric bought at Karstadt. It is super-comfy and leaves enough space to let the air circulate. In the last years I made the blouse in a couple more versions, improving the work from piece to piece. Maybe I'll wear the last version tomorrow and then I'll show you the details in workmanship.
Btw the sandals I'm wearing here are also some years old. They have a flexible part in the wedge which is called "Federflex" and it makes them really comfortable to wear. I was walking around all afternoon during work and my feet didn't hurt at all in the evening.

PS: I totally forgot that today is wednesday. Here you can find the other me-made wednesday participants. Thanks again to Catherine for organizing the day.

Me-made June day 21

Day 21:
Top: me-made ( Burda 07/2010 mod.106)
Shorts: hand-me-down
Sandals: old
Again just a comfortable outfit for revising and grocery shopping. Didn't feel like dressing up for that occasion.

Tine thrifts

These pants were 3 € at the Humana store in Cologne. They are fun to wear and made from a very light cotton fabric, so they are perfect for a hot summer day. The Humana store is a nice thriftshop in Cologne and if you are interested I might do a post about thrifting in Cologne in the near future.
This top was bought at the Hep-Shop in MG City for 3 €. It is 100 % Silk and very drapey, another easy-breezy shirt for summer. The pants are from the Volksverein Second-Hand-Shop and were 4,80€. The fit is just perfect and I was missing a simple pair of trousers in an olive green so that is why I got them.

Me-made June day 20

Day 20:

Top: thrifted
Shorts: thrifted
Sandals: Deichmann

I have to admit that there is no me-made featured in this outfit but for the most part of the day I was wearing exactly the same as yesterday because I was only at home revisioning. Just for going out in the morning I wore this. In the next post I will show you what I got at the thrift store, not as cheap as these two pieces I wore. Both were 50 CENTS at a thrift store in Düsseldorf called Cash&Raus. It is close to the Oxfam-Shop where I work and as soon as revision time is over I will head there again to make some more bargains.

6/19/2011

Revision time

Day 19:
Top:thrifted
Shorts: me-made ( vintage Burda pattern )

I am pretty pleased with myself that I even have a me-made garment for casually lounging around - and of course doing revision for my exams. The shorts even have a pocket in one of the side seams and are made from a very comfortable jersey. I made the pattern as well in a non-stretchy fabric and somehow I don't fit into that pair of trousers. Must have something to do with woven vs. knitted fabrics. I might try to make this pattern in a long-leg version as well from a knit, just need to find the right fabric for that.

Me-made June day 18

Day 18:
Dress: me-made (Burda)
Leggins: Tchibo
Scarf: 1-Éuro-Shop
Sandals: Deichmann
I have to say that I'm doing pretty well with me-made june. The month is halfway done and so far I din't have any problems in choosing an outfit in the morning. Though I have noticed that there are some basics missing in my wardrobe like a black skinny jeans, a lightblue flare jeans, a simple black skirt and an A-line-skirt. But therefore this month is a good way in improving your wardrobe. When I go fabric shopping I'm often drawn to the crazy prints and colourful patterns and tend to neglect the simple fabrics that are useful for some basic patterns. I guess many of you know that problem. At home you then look at your  fabric and think "What the heck did I think when buying this ?". In the last month I tried to think of an item for the fabric when I buy something and so far that made my spending a little bit more effective. Now I only have to get through examination period and then it'd full-time-sewing again. Wish me luck in the next two weeks!

6/17/2011

Me-made June day 17

Day 17:
Top: me-made ( Burda from the 70s)
Blazer: thrifted

Day 16:
Top: me-made ( Patrones pattern)
Button-up: thrifted ( Oxfam)
Trousers: thrifted and then altered by me
Sandals: thrifted
Bag: Forever 18

This was just a casual outfit for revision and one lecture. The sandals seem to be a new favorite for me, when I like things I tend to wear them again and again.

Me-made Mittwoch und Me-made June Recap

Day 10:

Top: me-made ( Burda 07/2000 mod. 128)
Pants: thrifted
Sandals. thrifted
This is what I wore on Friday for travelling to my parents place.

Day 11:
Top: me-made
Shorts: hand-me-down
Sandals: Reno

Day 12:
Cardigan: me-made ( self drafted pattern )
Pants: thrifted
Sandals: thrifted

Day 13:
Top: me-made

On day 14 I wore the same as on day 12. Since I was travelling with light luggage I didn't have so many outfits to chose from.

Day 15:
Top: me-made
Pants: thrifted
Shoes: old from El Corte Ingles in Palma de Mallorca

I had to shoot these outfits after I came back from my parents because I forgot to bring my camera. I hope this is allowed ;-)
Day 15 is wednesday and therefore Me-Made Mittwoch day. Here you find the other participants in this event that is organised by Catherine. She is wearing today a lovely dress which makes me realize how few dresses I've sewn so far. Well I made one dress in about 5 different fabrics but so far I didn't make many sundresses, need to keep that in mind and add to my to-sew list.

6/09/2011

Me-made June day 9

Day 9:

Top: C&A
Skirt:me-made ( just two gathered rectangles and a waistband)
Belt: thrifted
Sandals: thrifted

Today I just had a language course ( basic Russian) and then a Controlling lecture but somehow I felt like dressing up a bit. The sandals are pretty high but have a comfortable wedge and are super-soft on the feet, so you can walk all day in them. I scored them when I was at the fleamarket in Bonn some weeks ago. I can totally recommend that fleamarket it is really huge, somewhere I read that it has a length of about 4 km. I found everything there that I was looking for. Although I'm trying to reduce my spending right now I will probably go there again soon. It is only once a month and the next is on the 18th.

Me-made Mittwoch

Top: me-made (Patrones 12/2006 mod. 49)
Shorts: New Yorker
Sandals: Deichmann

This is what I wore on wednesday. The shirt looks like a t-shirt but it's made from a woven fabric. I liked the print so much ( and believe that it is the same fabric as used for one of the dresses of the first Topshop collaboration with Kate Moss) that I bought 10 m of it. Originally I wanted to copy the dress but then I made a some tops instead. You will probably see in a couple of days what else I made out of it.
Here you find the other participants of Me-made-Mittwoch organised by the lovely Catherine. Thank you for initiating this wonderful project.

Me-made June

I didn't have computer acess in the last days so here are the outfits from the past 4 days.
Day 2:
top: me-made ( Burda 07/2000 mod 128)
pants: me-made ( Burda 12/2006 mod.121)

Day 3:
Top: me-made ( Burda 07/2008 mod.108)
Skirt: me-made (Burda mod.105)

Day 4:
Top: me-made ( Burda 07/2000 mod.128)
Skirt: me-made (Burda mod. 105)

Day 5:
Top: me-made ( Burda 03/2008 mod. 113)
Skirt: me-made (Burda mod.105)

The skirt and pants were both made on thursday because I didn't have many pants or skirts that could be combined with anything. So I quickly made them up.Unfortunalety the white pants are a bit see-through, so I'll probably wear them in the house only. But the fit is great and I plan to make them in yellow too hoping that they won't be see-through as well.

6/01/2011

Me-made Mittwoch

Top: me-made ( Burda 07/2000 mod. 128)
Jeggins: TK Maxx
Sandals: Reno

This was my outfit for me-made-Mittwoch organised by Catherine ( you can find the other participants here) and the first day of me-made June. I don't have many selfmade pants yet so the outfits will probably always consist of a selfmade top and a RTW pants. But some pants are definitely on my to-sew list. I do have quite a variety of skirts but most of them are so unique that they don't fit to the tops I have.
