Python eats deer

Have you heard of the giant python that ate a deer in Florida ? That was the comment one of my friends made when she first saw me this morning. As I already posted in my wish list, I'd like to have something with a snakeskin print in my wardrobe and here it is, my new skirt.
Turtleneck: H&M
Skirt: me-made ( Burda , 8 panel skirt)
Belt: found in my parents wardrobe, years old
Tight: Tchibo ?
Shoes: fleamarket ( leather boots from Gabor)

I guess I should definitely learn how to use Gimp more professionally but so far I'm happy when I can erase this ugly door from my pictures.

One wish list leads to another

It's been a while since I last posted something. I still have the problem of when to take my pictures. Early in the morning before I leave the house it's dark outside and my camera makes awful pictures in artificial light. I have made a couple of things in the past weeks though. Tha means two items can be crossed of my wish list. One of them is the black maxi skirt and the other one is something with a snake print. I used the fabric that I got when I was in Berlin and made a simple skirt, similar to my mustard one.
In addition I made two simple tops. One in a checked flannel and one with the shoe print (also from Berlin). I only need to finish the neckline of the shoe-print top with bias tape. I tried to make a neckband out of the fabric but it didn't look good so I plan to get black cotton bias tape and handsew the tape to the neckline. If that doesn't work I'll just leave it Lanvin-style which means not to care about raw edges.
Unfortunalety I won't get around to create something new in the next month because I can't get to my sewing studio on the weekends. Maybe I will use the time to finally finish the sleeves of my cardigan which has been in the making for nearly a year now.

... and ending with Moda Moldes.

Moda Moldes always features very pretty dresses for special occasions.
This dress is my absolute favourite of all magazines.

 Nice details on the skirt.
And again, one shoulder. Love the sleeve.
I don't like the detail on the shoulder, but the bow is really nice.
Flares and maxi skirt, one is already crossed from my To-Sew-List. The red bag on the right looks great too.
Simple idea and I always like to get a basic pattern.
Reminds me of Katarinas new top.
Love to see curvacious models instead of the stick-thin models which are sometimes in the Patrones.

...continuing with Manequim...

Melissa of Fehrtrade already posted this issue here, but there are some different things that caught my eye. After flipping through the issue I have to say that Manequim is my favourite of the three magazines.
This is definitely on my To-Sew-List. I think it can be a fun way to use knit scraps and just combine different patterns and/or colours. I like it as well that this pattern comes in multiple sizes.
One shoulder dresses seem to be popular in Brasil. Every issue featured at least one. This has some interesting draping going on as well.
Love the twist detail. Only it will be difficult to make this without being able to read the instructions. We'll see if I make it one day.
Designer Paul Smith inspired this section. Nice basics, nothing too complicated.
I love flares, these are not in my size, but I just had to include them
The dress on the left looks really interesting in the line drawing, which I forgot to scan. And again a maxi, like in the Moldecia issue.
Chanel-like little jacket, might be a good pattern to try to replicate this Isabel Marant  Reilly jacket that Katarina blogged about and which I like as well.
Cute children garments for different ages, will be useful later ;-)
And the part that I always like best is when they show different outfits with the pieces from the issue and relate them to body types.

Revista galore ! Starting with Moldecia...

This was the first issue that I got hold off and therefore I was quite excited. I didn't know before that Brasil has such a big selection of sewing magzines and all so trend oriented and not like much of the German ones behind. The only thing I don't like about the brasilian magazines is that they offer most of the patterns in one size only. I'm not used to grade the patterns myself and need to get advice on how to do it.
It's getting summer in the southern hemisphere and maxi skirts and dresses are the trend of the season in Brasil. I like that too and have just made myself a black maxiskirt for fall. More information and pictures on that tomorrow.
There were some children clothes in the issue as well. Love the boy on the left, he's so cute.
Seems to be an article about fabric shopping on the internet. Maybe someone of you is able to read it ?

I put this on my To-Sew- List. I need a one shoulder evening dress. Possibly with a sparkling fabric.

Some cute summer dresses which can also work in fall, if they are made of a heavier fabric.
Such a simple dress, but the print makes it really special.
You can find more information on the magazine on their website which is www.moldecia.com.br .

Please pass me the paisley

Dress: me-made ( Burda)
Scarf: present
Tights: probably Tchibo
Shoes: Deichmann
Finally I managed to wear a me-made garment on a wednesday again, to take part in "Me-made Mittwoch". Organised by Catherine and taken part in by these lovely ladies. Now I'm off to see what the others wore today.

Mustard and blue

Pullover: handmade by my Mom
Skirt: me-made ( Burda 07/2000 mod. 112)
Shoes: Siemes ( from 2008)
It's getting dark so soon already that it's difficult to get decent pictures. In the morning it's dark when I leave the house and in the evening it's dark when I return. I tried to make it a little bit better by editing, but the quality of the picture couldn't be improved. But anyway, I really liked the outfit of today, because of my new mustard skirt. To use the simple pattern was a really good idea, though I'd make 9 panels next time instead of 8. The skirt is really high waisted right now and the wearing comfort is not so high. But it looks pretty and the length is good. For the weekend I plan to make a similar print with the snake print that I got in Berlin. And I want to make the black maxi skirt. I'm just having some trouble with my overlock machine. The knife doesn't cut properly anymore. Do you think that I need to change it ? I've got the machine for about 2 years now, and I'd consider the use as moderately.

Fall 2011 Wishlist

From left to right : J Brand Lovestory low-rise corduroy flared jeans Vince Shearling gilet L'Agence Stretch-jersey maxi skirt Acne Pistol leather ankle boots See by Chloé Silk crepe de chine blouse Lanvin Rosette-embellished silk top Sass & bide Snake-print cotton-jersey T-shirt Chloé Drape-front silk-charmeuse blouse Proenza Schouler PS1 Large leather and jacquard satchel

This is what I want to make for fall. If I'd buy this, it would cost me 6,168.78 €. Can I afford this ? Not at all, but hey I'm a seamstress, right ? So I'll try to make these items for a fraction of the cost in the upcoming months. Maybe I won't make the items 100 % identical, but I will orientate myself on the styles and create my own low-budget version out of them. For the shoes I'll have a look on the fleamarkets and in the thrift shops. I'm certain that I'll find something similar.

First Fall Fashion Garment

Top: me-made
Jeans: thrifted ( Xhiliaration)
Shoes: flea-market
I made this garment actually a year ago, but I haven't worn it since. Now that I decided on my fall palette, I think it fits into the palette quite welll. Sometimes you have wonderful pieces in your wardrobe that you just forget about. The pattern is actually a dress that I made a couple of times already. For the top I just shortened the bodice and that was it.

Fall Palette 2011

I decided to start sewing with a plan. I also decided to use up my stash and not buy any new fabrics for the next months. So it will be a bit difficult to stick to the Fall Palette but I tried to choose colours which are already in my stash or colours that I already made garments in.
As you can see I still have to learn how to use my image editor. I downloaded Gimp just a couple of days before and need to get used to the functions.

Since lectures started again and on weekends I work at Oxfam there is not much time left for sewing. We'll see how long I need to resize my stash. Next year I can then start to build it up again. This year I made the pledge to  not buy any new garments and I kept the pledge. I'm already thinking about what to take as next years pledge. For a while I though about " No plastic allowed" but that would be very hard, nearly impossible. Any ideas on next years motto ?

Spring 2012, I want to have it all

Slowly I'm making my way through the shows for Spring 2012 and I think I already found my favourite. Everything about the new Burberry Collections screams to me " Make me !". I love the combination of bold patterns and the colours, oh the colours. Though I would see them more for a Fall collection than for Spring and am inspired to make something like that right now for this season, I love the whole collection. I haven't made a coat yet, but there are some patterns that I'd like to try. A classic trench is really missing in my wardrobe and as soon as I allow myself to buy fabric again, I'll splurge on some fabric to make a coat muslin. Here are some of my favourite looks from Burberry .
The Resort 2012 collection was equally stunning and features some of my favorite trends like flared trousers and the colour yellow.
What I really like abour Burberry is that they make wearable pieces which transform easily from season to season. I can imagine that with some african print cotton you can easily recreate some of the garments. I like what style.com says in its comment to the collection
A military wife, whose husband is stationed in the Far East, say, fills her idle hours by watching and learning from local artisans. Then she applies her new knowledge to decorating her own clothes, maybe with the beading that ran down the placket of a trench or lined its collar, or the bigger geometric wooden beads that formed patterns around necklines, or the raffia trim on a parka hood. And maybe she'd replace the buttons on her cardigan with pretty stones she found on the beach
Doesn't that sound like, well, us ? All the ladys who sew and make their own garments out there ?

Finally, something new !

It's been a while since I last posted something. Somehow I was so busy in my holidays that I didn't get around to make something new. Though I gathered lots of inspiration and have many plans on what to sew next.
Remember the skirt that gave me sewing depression ? Well, I finally made it and am very happy with it. Let's have a look.
Shirt: C&A
Skirt: me-made
Shoes: C&A
Belt: old, found at my parents house

When I look at the fall inspiration boards from the fall pallette challenge, I can see that I'm not the only one, who was craving a mustard skirt. I fell in love with the fabric once I saw it at the Karstadt store in Lübeck and immediately thought that it should become my new favourite fall colour. The fabric has light stripes in vertical direction that make it a little more intersting than just plain cotton.
Now, if only the weather would be a little bit more like in fall , I'm looking forward to sport this outside. But somehow Germany is experiencing a late summer and in the past days, I dressed in my summer clothes and kept the warm garments in my closet.
